Smith Machine Stacks and Bar Weight Are Different

SKEISO Fitness |

On the SKEISO SKS-1, the two rectangular weight stacks supply the cable stations; they are not the same thing as the weight loaded onto the Smith bar. The guided bar uses its own mechanism and separate weight plates. The cylindrical components alongside the Smith guides should not be counted as additional selectorized cable stacks. If you are comparing resistance, keep selected stack weight, resistance at a cable handle and effective Smith starting resistance separate. A photograph or a combined stack total cannot provide all three numbers.

Identify the station before reading the number

The SKS-1 product specification lists two 200 lb cable stacks. Each stack is associated with a cable station and has pin-selected weights. The Smith bar is the horizontal guided bar used for a different training format. Selecting a cable-stack pin does not mean you have selected the same load for the Smith bar.

The machine also has an upper cable bar and overhead pull-up grips. These can look similar in a cropped image but serve different roles. Trace the connection: a bar hanging from a cable is not the fixed overhead grip assembly, and neither should be used to infer the Smith bar's starting resistance.

Why the selected stack is not a verified handle reading

Cable routing and mechanical advantage affect the relationship between selected stack mass and force at the handle. Friction and the specific setup can also matter. Without a verified model-specific ratio, a precise handle-resistance claim would be an assumption.

Do not describe two 200 lb stacks as 400 lb available at a single handle. Independent stations are useful because their settings can be selected separately, not because their labels can automatically be added. A connection joining both sides would require its own approved setup and documentation.

The central horizontal Smith bar and the adjustable cable stations are separate systems. The angled bar hanging from the upper cable is a cable attachment, not a pull-up grip.

Treat Smith loading as its own record

For Smith work, record the plates added to the bar separately from cable-stack selections. The bar, guide system and any counterbalancing mechanism affect the starting feel, so do not assume it matches a free barbell of a familiar weight.

This guide does not assign an effective starting weight to the SKS-1 Smith bar. Ask SKEISO for a current verified figure if that value is important to your training log. Until then, record the model and added plates rather than inventing a total. Follow the manual's locking and safety instructions.

Keep your training log comparable

Write down the machine, station, attachment and setting. A cable exercise can change when you alter pulley height, grip or connection, even if the selector pin stays in the same place. A Smith lift belongs in a separate entry from a cable movement or free-bar lift.

When changing machines, reassess an appropriate starting load instead of assuming equal labels mean an identical experience. This is a way to keep records honest, not a recommendation to test a maximum or a claim that one machine produces better results.

What this means before buying

If your priority is cable training, ask about the cable system, selection increments and travel. If your priority is Smith training, ask about the guided bar, loading compatibility and safety setup. If you want both, the SKS-1 provides those distinct stations within one frame, but they still need separate evaluation.

The current SKS-1 package distinguishes included machine components from separate plates, free-weight barbell and workout bench. Confirm the items needed for your intended exercises. Buying an all-in-one machine does not make every accessory or resistance figure interchangeable.

Product details and next step

Use the SKS-1 specifications and manual to identify each station, and ask for confirmation before relying on an unlisted ratio or starting-bar weight. See the SKS-1 product specifications, configuration choices and linked manual.
